PUGs

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 9:32 PM
So when I was on my paladin today I was seriously considering if I should just give her up. I felt like I was not progressing on her, and didn't know what I wanted to do with her.

I started her off as tank but found that I failed at it. I wasn't used to being so up close with the mobs (I play a mage and a priest usually) and I was always stressed out about not keeping aggro, or having some dps pull mobs off. Eventually I decided to make her holy and work on having a second healing since I enjoy healing. (Yes, it's true, some of us love healing.)

tl;dr )
I felt really lousy at my poor paladin healing skills, but decided to try pug-healing a dungeon for practice. Ended up with a really wonderful group who were very encouraging and kind, making me feel much better and more confident about paladin healing. Good PUG groups do exist! <D

Does anyone here use two majorly different UIs, depending on the character?

Right now, I love my UI... for my mage. It's perfect, I have all the info I want to see, everything is in place, and I don't need to worry about positioning for healing or anything.

But, I have a fledgling druid boomkin/healer and while my current UI works, it's a bit bloated for her tastes. I'd actually like to try an entirely different UI - for example, I use Shadowed Unit Frames currently and they're lovely, but I'd like to try VuhDo on my druid - and that's just the start of it.

So, is it possible to use two completely different sets of addons, depending on the character? There's lots of addons that I use on my mage that I'd like my druid's profile to ignore completely, and vice-versa.

Arrrrpeee Questions

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 6:36 AM
My little pally is a miner/JC'er (might be taking JC to BS- She isn't far in and I don't know the endgame benefits to either, really.) and I am taking suggestions on what to wear when I am RPing after she's been caught working hard at the forge. I'm thinking maybe the sleeveless t-shirt ( http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18231 )and..something? Obviously I don't want fancy, I'm just. Not certain. Can't seem to get the model viewer working, either.

Also, belf last names. I had one for her, but forgot since I've had her for about four or five months and this is the first time I've gotten around to RPing with her. Everything I can think of is taken from lore - even my unloved mage's last name, which I didn't realize at the time (http://www.wowwiki.com/Sunblade) or just doesn't flow well. Her name is Ligeia (Pronounced Le-gaia) and I'm tearing out my hair! How do you RP ladies find last names for your blood elfs without taking it from lore or doing the foreign names that people on my server seem to like (De la Vega, du Soliel)?

Reporting

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 8:29 AM
When do you ladies report a gold seller? I have been bugged by three toons in short succession this morning with typical gold seller phrases of "Hey, are you there?" and the like. All level ones, all with highly suspicious names. Really, I wanted to report them right then and there, as I was almost certain that they were about to offer me gold and my anti-social tired self could not be bothered doing the usual "Oh, yes? How can I help you?" conversation to get them to actually offer me gold (I usually click on the line where they offer me "the goods" to report them, so the GM has the proof right there when they check my complaint).

I mean, they don't break the TOS by just asking me if I am there in bad English, on a level one toon in the starting area, with a dodgy name, so strictly speaking I have nothing to report them over. However, after almost two years of playing WoW I can read the signs and know when my gold-seller detection senses are tingling.

What do you say? Just report them and hope someone else has bothered to gather proof that they are breaking the TOS or wait until they have said something that warrants a report?

I hope I make sense. It is early in the morning and my brain is still half asleep >.> Also I am grouchy as apparently I am not allowed to do my dailies in peace today *glares at fourth gold seller asking me if I am there*

LoL of the Day

So I was in a half-PuG ICC 25 today, and we ended up calling it after the first boss. I was on my resto shaman smashing some meters (it sounds vain, but really the other healers were... average). Anyway, after I left I got this from the raid leader:

[19:23:18] [W From] [--------]: not to be raceist or anything but for a girl you do well. most girls that play wow are fail lol

Racism fail! :D

Baby warrior DPS rotation?

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 10:00 AM
I usually heal. I have no idea how to DPS in instances. Like, no idea. But I really want to try playing a warrior, and fury is fun, and I like instances the most. So can anybody suggest what rotation you would use at like, 16, 20, 26, 30... I don't know when you get what skills. Or how to use them in a party.

A fury spec would also be awesome!

Thanks!

Gnomechu evolved into a squidchu

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 4:15 AM
This was a pretty spontaneous idea, but I have totally no regrets. Today my baby gnome DK grew up and turned into a beautiful, tall... space goat. That's right. I guess I got a bit sick of seeing everyones kneecaps *shrug* so as a little Xmas gift to myself, I present this magical transformation:

What makes a tank 'good'?

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 9:14 PM
Hello ladies,

I have just run a random heroic, and it landed on Halls of Lightning. Once again, I was playing the DPS role in the group as my shaman with a DK guildmate, and we had a protection warrior tanking for us, which is the class/spec I play as a main. I don't see too many warriors out there now, so I was hopeful that this one would do us proud. At first it seemed like my hope was justified, after all, he had respectable gear on, right? Well, after rushing in to the first pull before the healer was ready, I began to have my doubts. On the multi-mob pulls he would lose aggro too quickly to the mage in the group (he didn't Vigilance) and on the General, I was very close to dying before he picked it back up. The mobs were all over the place, and the mage was starting to get upset, as was I.

I was thinking at the time that if this was going to be a preview of how the rest of the run would go, then I would not want to continue with this so-called tank. So I reached for the Vote to Kick button, and to my dismay, it wouldn't allow me to do that because the random timer hadn't reached the end of its 15 minute debuff. So two bosses later, he starts swearing and saying obscene and profane things to our group, and I decided enough was enough. I felt humiliated in a way because someone who played what I did was doing such a poor job and to make matters worse, disrespecting the party. Thankfully, a protection paladin from our server and a druid came in to replace what we had lost, and we finished without any more trouble.

Shamy heals...can I do it?

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 6:02 PM
Greetings ladies (and gents)! I have a baby 25 shaman who I am going to attempt the healing route with...but I've only gone the DPS route with my other toons, so I am lost. Might one of you be able to suggest a helpful shaman healing blog or site? I really am going to have to research to figure out how to keep things alive instead of killing them. My palms are already sweating at the thought of ppl dying...yikes! Any links, advice, input would be greatly appreciated!

Happy Holidays!

Who met their partners on WoW?

  • Dec. 27th, 2009 at 9:16 AM
Hi WoW ladies (and lads)
About two years ago, whilst levelling my 39 lock in STV, i ran across some trouble in a cave. I put a shout out in general for 'err a little help in here pls?' and a friendly warrior came to my rescue. We chatted for a bit and i added him to friends becuase he seemed an affable sort. We ended up levelling together most way to 70 before our schedules fell out of sync and we stopped playing online together. I had by that stage established enough trust to give out my out-game contacts and we stayed in touch as mates over the next 18 months.

During this time it was discovered we had a lot in common, including the same birthday!!! Mid-year, after a horrific breakup with my partner of 5 years, he was the friend who gave me the most support (online at least).
But lately iv'e been thinking about him a lot more than i probably should be, and i even gathered up the courage to visit him (a 2hr flight). We got on well and to me it seemed that a relationship could be possible (with a little effort given the state in between us).
Also, we are both playing WoW again, although on different servers, and im wondering if i should transfer to be with him...

Id like to know of any successful WoW relationships from you ladies out there! Give me some hope! And does anyone think having the same birthday is a spooky fate thing???

(also a shout-out to any WoW ladies on Oceanic servers <3)

Outland LFG

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 6:16 PM
It's like I never do anything but use the LFG tool to do lowbie dungeons, even if the dungeons are not quite so lowbie anymore.

Tanks are improving as my baby mage grows up -- she's 63 now, and working her way through Hellfire Peninsula (with a brief stop back in Azeroth to powerlevel her Inscription, since I neglected it terribly) -- but their "dumbass" title seems to be claimed by various kinds of DPS and the occasional healer.

The Little Rogue Who Couldn't - isn't supposed to tank but insists on trying, can't stop linking his level 60 purples like they're worth a damn anymore, Shadowsteps behind and backstabs the boss while we're still clearing the last of the trash, whines for a heal when he's down 10% life and we're not in combat... I can't believe I got this one not once but twice today, same guy.

The Healer Who Wants A Lot of Drinks - I don't mind giving out water, but if we're two pulls from the last boss of the instance, and you ask me for more water, don't complain when I hand you the partial stack I have in my bags, especially while I'm drinking myself.  How much water do you really need for three pulls anyway?

The Damage-Happy AOEr - No, wait, this one's me.  Still, don't bitch me out if I'm pulling aggro with Frost Nova.  I'm trying to lock them into place because they're going to otherwise beeline to the healer while you're "establishing" aggro. Oh, single target's more mana efficient, is it?  You know what else is efficient? Shutting yer trap, but I don't see you doing that, do I?

Mr. Link the Meters! - Who gives a rats ass?  It's Outland, and not even late-life Outland at that.  Are you really gonna whine and gripe about not being top dog in Blood Furnace?  No, I'm not saying that because my name's on top.  Really, I'm not.

I Queued Heals Because I Someone Told Me To In A Whisper -  Yes, I'm looking at you, Mr. Feral Druid who is apparently supposed to heal us in cat gear with 3k mana.  I didn't realize Nurturing Instincts was such an OP talent for ferals.  I feel so pitiful and pathetic for ever doubting your 1337 healing prowess.  You, sir, rank with Alamo.   Now GTFO my queue, because the Vote Kick is not letting us feed you to the smoke monster.

Ms. You're Fucking Me Over By Not Looting! - Yes, it's a conspiracy to keep you from maximizing your profits and leatherworking ability.  None of us want you to have any gold, or be able to craft anything ever.  That's why the tank's not looting the core hound ... er, fel hound... while you're standing there screaming at him to.  No, he's halfway down the hall with the rest of us, continuing to clear trash.  Yes, surely this one hound that you can't skin (and are getting increasingly and hostilely insistent on skinning) is going to break your bank and set you back years in your crafting skills.  No, fuck you, snowflake.  There's a million boars in Hellfire.  Why don't you go skin those after we vote kick your ass out and get someone who isn't going to curse up a storm over one piece of leather?

And Now For Something Completely Different

Kudos to the awesome group I ran with late last night.  I lost track of how many times we did Ramps before I finally couldn't take it anymore and requested Blood Furnace or Slave Pens, but I got a level and a half out of the deal, and y'all were really cool to hang with for those couple of hours.  Merry Christmas to all of you, wherever you might be.

Possible Drama Queen?

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 10:50 AM
I am an officer of a very tiny small guild... It's made up of just GL, Myself, and five other people, the rest are alts.

So on one of my off nights from the game, a new female member was invited to the guild. I thought awesome another female to talk with.... I log in one night and she started talking to the boys.. (I ask one of my officers, who was that, cause I didn't see her before. He was like oh some new chick K invited) So I say hey to her, no response... In fact the entire conversation dropped.. So the rest of the guild started talking to me, asking how things were and stuff.

Rest of story here )
I've found a bit of a snag while trying to keep a scrapbook of my achievements in game. Lately, I've been getting 3, 4, and 5 achievements at the same time, except that the screen doesn't show it, or it'll show one or two and skip the rest. And the last time (HoS, HHoS, NR Dun Hero, NR Dun Master) my awesome completely crashed the game and I didn't get screenshots at all. Does anyone know of a way to get more than one or two achievements to show at a time?

Also, is there an addon that locks on to whatever the tank is focused on? The new floating nameplates suck, the old ones are bad too, and I'm finding tanks are becoming more and more absent minded when it comes to marking their targets. I try not to be that huntard, but more and more with these pugs, people just have their targets going all over the place.

Also, I am posting this from a Sonic Drive thru. Beat that, Panera iMac Man.

Trinkets!! We meet again...

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 1:09 PM
So my paladin has two trinkets right now, tears of the vanquished" and Je'Tze's Bell. I'm pondering of replacing either with talisman of resurgence because of the buttload of int, but I'm not sure.

I was thinking of replacing the bell with it, so I'd keep the mana regen proc on the tears and get 128 intellect. But, I'd lose 106 spell power, which hurts. @_o But if I keep the bell and replace the tears, I'd get +44 int but lose the proc. :\

Any suggestions? His armory is here if that helps.

Hey, I know this is really random, but I'm in a photoshop mood, and wondering if anyone wants an icon of their char?

It'll be somewhat like this

Just need to know whether you want it to say your chars name or your name, and I need a screenshot of your char, and what color scheme you want (the original is pink/purple)

EDIT: Please don't hesitate to send a request, I -WILL- eventually get it done ASAP and send it to you

Bear-tanking it on H-FoS halp pretty please!

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 10:57 AM
Hai all.

Little background... For most of my four or five years I've been playing Wow, I have played healers. I <3 healing. Then I rolled a elemental shaman and discovered the pure pwning awesomeness of eleshammy facemelting. So then I thought, well... I can heal... I can dps... I wanna try tanking. So I rolled a bear tank. I've only been tanking for a few months, so I basically know just enough to get myself in trouble. :P I can tank heroics pretty well, sure, a mob or two will occasionally get away from me, but one Growl from me and it comes running back. So, I really didn't think I was that terrible of a tank... but then Heroic Forge of Souls happened.

-.-

Ladies, please help me. I have no idea how to tank this stupid instance. Four and five casters who refuse to budge from just out of my range, I'm running around like a drunken furball, the dps are valiantly trying to stay on one of the targets I'm frantically tab-targetting through trying to keep threat on all of them (ok, actually, they are usually doing what dps do, going ballistic on whatever target I haven't targetted yet >.>), the healer is sobbing and heart-attacking as s/he tries to keep everyone up and Barnum and Bailey just announced that the monkeys are performing in Ring 3.

-headdesk-

So... halp? >.<

Here is my Armory. Any additional suggestions as to gear or spec would be *greatly* appreciated!

Thank you so much, Ladies!
I've recently posted and joined in on discussions about DKS and tanking and all that fun, but as I've stated a few times, my 'main' has always been my Disc priest Lilliah. Because of the holidays and of work (yay for working in retail!) I have not been on my main very much, especially since since my guild was having an IRL meet and greet over the week before Christmas. I signed on today to wish my guild mates merry Christmas and by chance happened to notice a guildie on my friends list was not in my guild when I tabbed open O to see who was on..

Ensuing Drama Ensues )

And now... the rest of the story.

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 4:29 AM
Due to a new job, I recently had to step down from raiding with my hunter. The only upgrades left for her, really, are in ICC, so there's not a whole lot of point in playing her. The new LFG tool has been a godsend for my disc priest, though. He was wearing a patchwork of Naxx stuff, BoEs, and blues from heroics, so suddenly having access to t9 is fantastic, not to mention the actual items that drop in the new instances.

Anyway, I know there's been a lot of grr over the whole gearscore thing, so I thought I'd mention the only time I've actually run into it in-game. This was a couple days ago, and the random tossed us into H-HoR. This is really the only heroic that makes me half-cringe, as the Marwyn trash waves can get pretty awful if the tank doesn't pick up everything instantly and securely. Even if they do, it can be pretty rough. But I'm willing to try any instance with any group, and H-HoR usually doesn't get instaquits, since everyone wants the gear (including me!).

It wasn't the easiest clear of that instance I've ever done, but we did clear it. After all the crystals/loot had been distributed from the last chest (I think that was when I got the belt I'm wearing), the tank who had previously been entirely silent says: "OK GUYS WHAT'S EVERYONE'S GS!????" then drops group.

I thought that was pretty awesome.

I will have to admit I did ditch a group earlier, though. The tank was doing something wrong - I have no idea what - but he was taking unhealable levels of damage from old kingdom trash. I remarked on the insane damage he was taking one or two trash pulls in, and when we wiped after another couple pulls because I simply couldn't heal through the damage, I was like "well, good luck with that" and ditched. He accused me of being a "gear elitist" because I said he wasn't ready to tank the instance, but like, I hadn't even inspected him and honestly wouldn't know what to look for if I had. All I know is that if you've got weakened soul on you, renew ticking, penance and PoM on CD, and you die while flash heal is casting on old kingdom trash, you're not ready to tank it. You're just not.
